Quick Overview

Although traditionally, writing memoirs, as this genre is understood in the Western world, especially women’s memoirs, has been relatively rare in Persian, since the latter years of the 20th century, an increasing number of women from various classes began to write about their own experiences over the previous four or five decades. Many of these memoirs are by well-known literary and artistic figures as well as political and social activists. A number of memoirs have also been written or coauthored by women, of-ten from economically lower or lower middle classes, who were in some ways active in the 1978-79
Islamic Revolution in Iran and, in particular, in connection with the Iran-Iraq war. The present volume is completely different from all aforementioned cases. Beta is written by a highly educated young scientist and is about her struggles and ultimate remarkable success in the production and eventual manufacturing of one of the most complex medications in the world, a woman who leads a team of young idealistic educated Iranians like herself in this endeavor, providing for them and future generations a model worthy of emulation.

Haleh Hamedifar

Haleh Hamedifar was born in 1972 in Tehran. She received her Pharm.D. degree at Tehran University of Medical Sciences and was the valedictorian of her graduating class. She then broadened her studies, earning an MBA at Linkoping University, Sweden. Currently, she is the Chief Executive Officer of CinnaGen Pharmaceutical Group, an internationally recognized corporation known for its cutting edge advancements in science and innovation in the manufacturing of biologic therapeutics. Dr. Hamedifar has received numerous honors and awards in a vast spectrum of activities, including management and the promotion of quality control and quality assurance processes, which have resulted in noted advancements in the pharmaceutical industry. She has served as CEO for 20 years, during which time she has promoted CinnaGen from a diagnostic manufacturer to a global biopharmaceutical company. As a result, its sales have increased exponentially. With her efforts, her company has broken through highly regulated markets in which no other Iranian company has managed to have a presence, and also has closed out-licensing and technology transfer deals for the first time in the history of Iran.
