Avicenna, Persian Ebn-e Sina or Pour Sina [Arabic Ibn Sina], was born 980, near the city of Bukhara, Iran/Persia [now in Republic of Uzbekistan]. He died in1037 in the city of Hamadan, Iran/Persia. He was an Iranian physician, the most famous and influential of the philosopher-scientists of the medieval Iranian/Persian as well as Islamic world. He was, among other things, particularly noted for his vast knowledge and contributions in the fields of Aristotelian philosophy and medicine. He composed the “Kitab al-shifa” (Book of the Cure, or of the Healing), a vast philosophical and scientific encyclopedia, and “Al-Qanun fi al-Tibb” (The Canon of Medicine), which is among the most famous books in the history of medicine
